Texas 200, an event not to be missed with pioneer adventurer M. Adams, one of the founders of SSAC. 9-13th June 2008.

I remember in the summer of 2003, we met the last time on a rafting trip. As I searched the internet for inexpensive boating I came across this Catamarn website and to my surprise found it was my old friend, who had helped me years ago to formulate and carve out the true meaning of SSAC, its goals and objectives, its history etc. Here are his catamarans, and please participate either online or live in the texas 200 event from 9-13th of June (www.texas200.com)

You might see this as a child's play but due to their lightweight they are superfast and would probably go many times back and forth on this texas 200 event.

This is the latest model and an improved version is soon to come out. But most of all this simple and easy construction could be used by Haitian fishermen as well as kids thirsty for recreation in Haiti, where one of AMURT's and VSS's most ambitious project ever has started.

Haiti and its islands, a haven for magic ocean adventures...

We have been thrilled by the beauty and charm of the beautiful landscape of northern Haiti. Caves, dry gullies, mountains and crystal blue water in the sea. Let's start with the water : With a huge reservoir of water from the depths of the Carribean trench, it feels as if the water is so clean and clear. That is also one reason why salt extraction would produce a very pure kind of salt in this area around the northern side of Hispanola.

Getting around is a much more interesting question, while the northernmost coast has big waves and wind, there seems to be a kind of eddie effect at the southern part of the northern part of the island. In Anse Rouge therefore we would find a flat sea with waves hardly reaching 50 cm heights despite high winds which keep changing suddenly from north to south to the opposite direction. Ideal conditions for boating that normally would be possible in lakes only. The lightweight design is just about perfect for this area.

A Big test is coming for these cats : the texas200.com event In fact we expect this cat to peform at high speeds, probably going back and forth between other boats. Please don't miss this event and see our first outing with canoes which will help prepare the kids with navigation skills before these high speed cats could possibly catapult them into Cuba or Jamaica...

In fact this outing was fun and educative. The kids lifted some of the fishermen's fish traps and viewed the beautifully coloured fish inside, we spotted at least 10 varieties that day. We ended up playing with a crab that was not the least afraid of us and rather faced us defiantly ready to strike...
