Cave excursion becomes Cave education and cleanup in one of the most interesting caves in Haiti's North West... Mont Bayard or Monbaya is a little township near Coridon in Artibonite province north of Gonaives. Nobody would think even that there could be a gigantic cave the size of 50 m long and large. The local school was extremely enthusiastic when we proposed to cleanup the cave Benitier on a saturday. We brought food and drinks to keep everybody strong and for 2 saturdays in a row we did the job. Many visitors who used to visit regularly were astonished to see the beauty of a place where literally thousands of rusty cans, bottles and other materials were dumped for a number of ceremonies and rituals people are used to do for their wodoo traditions. The Canadian International development Assistance also called ACDI in french, sponsored a program of upliftment of the standard of education to re-inforce the development AMURT is doing in the area since 2004. "Learning while doing" is the wing of the outdoor education promoted by SSAC and taught the kids not only to appreciate the beauty of their area, but also to learn the intricate relationship between bats and other bio-organisms. |
