Sports and Yoga health in Norway The viking legacy lives on in winter-sports... Norway holds the world record with 303 medals out of which 107 gold since the start of the Olympic winter games with cross-country skiing and speed skating as the top sports.(wikipedia).For a nation with about 5 million people at present it is no small achievement. Yoga-asanas as a discipline seem to attract more and more practitioners in Norway and have helped them to gain a better sense of their body as a precious instrument and learn to appreciate meditation as a psycho-spiritual counterpart to become a more healthy and balanced human being. While many health-food stores sell a myriad of supplements, vitamins and cell-regeneration kits to complement "missing" minerals and essential building blocks of our bodies, we sometimes forget that to hydrate more, detoxify and reduce the number and types of food we eat is allowing the body to regain its natural balance all by itself. In the same way, to make oneself more successful is not a matter of engineering thoughts with a multitude of principles, how-to's and instruction manuals, but of "letting go" of pressures that artificially clog our minds and cause stress. Hence Yoga and meditation approaches teach us how to release tensions and allow our bodies and minds to come into a natural flow that brings the "intuitive knowledge" to perform naturally at its best, the secret that has produced not only sportspeople, but also great leaders to be in "the zone", feeling "mindfull", which P.R. Sarkar termed as "apexed psychology". Dada Mokseshvarananda, a yoga monk has inspired hundreds of people in the US, Africa, Mexico and Haiti to change their lives through Leadership-skills, yoga and meditation workshops. He has inspired many to volunteer in service programs all over the world most recently in Haiti where he spent the last 7 years leading major social service projects.
